Why do so many apps want access to my phone calls?

The recent update of the Youtube app, and the new Kindle app both want to be able to read phone state and identity. What the heck need do they have for that? Other apps are asking for that too, including the update to the game Coloroid which I enjoy. Is there some reason to give these apps that access? I don't want to provide my call access to any of these companies.

"Read Phone state and Identify"... That has NOTHING to do with call access. It's just checking to see if you're getting a phone call so it can save your progress quickly when you get a call.

Really? Your sure? That makes me feel a lot better.

yeah for instance you are playing a game and you get a phone call if it doesnt know that you got a call and you just quit out in the middle you will have to start over vs it pausing it for you while you answer your call.

But its always good to keep vigil of things, good job asking questions.
