Hey,

I would like to know in more detail how the Popup Widget app works, hope somebody can help me out.

If I create shortcuts to widgets with Popup Widget, how is the widget implemented/displayed? My main concern is the battery life. If I run a widget on one of my home screens, say a mail widget which sends requests to the server every 15 minutes, the widget is running constantly which results in higher battery drain.

If I create a shortcut to the same mail widget with Popup Widget, is the widget running in the background constantly as well, or does it get "triggered" when I tap the shortcut? It's nice to have a bunch of shortcuts for various widgets, but I don't want them to drain my battery constantly, I use most of them only 1-2 times a day.

To sum my question up:
When does a widget get placed/triggered via Popup Widget?
a) when I create the shortcut or
b) when I tap the shortcut?

Well, I'm not sure that this app doesn't defeat the primary purpose of widgets which is to allow you to see at a glance what the current weather is, how many new emails are in your inbox, etc., but the developer clearly states in his slideshow, "Less memory use" and "Low battery consumption."

I imagine the widgets are in a "suspended state" until you trigger them by tapping the Popup icon.

I mailed the developer and got the following response:

Hi,

Popup widget creates the widget instance only when you pop it up (tap the shortcut).
And it is destroyed when you close it.
I think it would be helpful to resolve the battery issue.

Best regards

So it's answer b):
The widget is being created when I tap the shortcut and destroyed when I close it.
