I just got a Hangouts update this week and dismissed the window asking me to switch to Messenger for SMS. I use Google Voice exclusively, so I believe I'll be able to continue using Hangouts for all my IMing needs.
But I wonder, with all of Google's programming and engineering talent -- and with all the time they've had to work on it -- how did Hangouts end up the way it is? SMS integration was slow and tedious and the dialer is clunky and patched together.
Is it possible Hangouts the app will look and feel and bad as the old Google Voice app currently does in a short amount of time?
