Hey all. I just recently got the R2D2 Droid for Verizon. Its a welcomed changed from Blackberry. I was wondering if you could all give me some suggestions for some apps. Like possible to monitor battery life, or even make the battery life better. Also, I want smileys in my texts, and the stock messaging doesn't do that. So any help would be appreciated.

Check out Handcent on the Android Market. Much better that stock messaging.

Yes, what Unclecheese said. I'm going to look through my Apps folder right now and list some of what I enjoy or find most important:

-Dolphin Browser Mini (much better than the stock browser, but I hope this personal opinion doesn't turn this thread into a "favorite browser" argument)

-GasBuddy (I'm going to win those $250 in gas cards someday)

-K-9 Mail (much better than the stock mail apps...it's been said that the stock mail and messaging apps have serious memory leak issues)

-MyBookDroid (if you're into reading...syncs up with goodreads.com)

-NewsRob (the best Google Reader RSS app out there)

    -Note Everything

    -Out Of Milk

    -Plume (Twitter client)

    -Beautiful Widgets

Battery Indicator Pro (also free version) for monitoring battery

    HandcentSMS for messaging

Once you get rooted SetCPU will help you adjust processor speed and set profiles to save battery life

Tasker will help you customize anything you want
