YouTube full screen controls

The on screen controls will not go for me on YouTube. Being a core app I can't delete it, I have tried clearing cache and data. I have also tried uninstalling updates.

At one stage I had to minimise and full screen again to get them off and now nothing.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do?

Have you already tried tapping the X at the lower right? This is a puzzling feature, because it only shows up on my Nexus 6P, and not on my other devices. Not sure if it's a Nougat thing, or if it depends on how big the screen is.

Oh wow, that simply. Cheer mate, when did they introduce that, it used to just disappear when I rotated the phone.

I think it was within the past 6 months or so. And again, I've only seen it on my Nexus 6P (although I haven't checked my Nexus 7 recently).
