Why won't google play let me download anything?

Whenever I try to update or download an app it just tells me "Authentication is required. You need to sign into your google account." I am already signed into it and I'm unsure of how to fix this. Anyone have a solution or am I just being dumb?

Welcome to Android Central. Can you go online to the Play store and download an app to your device? Is it listed there as an approved device?

Yes, I can download an app to my device. Yes, it is approved. It will let me download games and other apps. The two apps that I know of that it won't let me update nor download is Skype and the Weather Channel.

Okay, you don't say which device and OS you're using. There's a chance those two app upgrades are not compatible with your device.
