Am I going crazy? Android Messages missing?

Hello everyone! I recently switched from my stock Samsung sms app to Android messages (which I love!) I did this because I wanted to try out the web version of Android messages. The problem is I am missing text messages my friends and family are sending me. Allow me to illustrate:
Me: Why didn't your respond to my test last night?
Friend: I did! I will show you on my phone!
Me: Well... sh*t.
Should I switch back to the stock Samsung texting app?

I would try switching back and see if it still happens. Also are your friends on iPhones OR with a different carrier? Although its not the problem is once was, SOMETIMES there can still be issues when a person on one carrier tries to SMS someone on another, and sometimes iPhones have issues too.
