Can I change between speakers on Android?

I have to make an application which allows me to mute the top speaker on Android phones, and listen only on the bottom one. Is it even possible? I heard that it works well on Iphones and as i researched a bit, I found that it is a hardware problem, but anyone know if there is a solution for that? Or is it even doable? I need it as soon as possible.

Id depends on whether you're talking about a phone with 2 speakers and a receiver (the part you put to your ear during phone calls), or just one speaker at the bottom and a receiver at the top.

In the first case, probably, by running sound through only one channel (left or right).

In the second channel, choosing whether to use the speaker or the receiver.
