Why do my captions settings in YouTube effect every other app on my phone BUT YouTube?

So I selected custom closed captions setting in my YouTube app on my galaxy note 9, and phone wide they show up in Hbo Go, shotime anytime etc. perfectly but my YouTube app shows this tiny, arial, jet black font that is impossible to read, if i go into my YouTube settings and switch it to one of the ugly little presets like yellow on blue background the problem is resolved. Any suggestions?

Leave it on whatever tiny ugly font you can read. I hate serif fonts on screen (they're better on paper), but with some apps that's what you get. I've been saying it for a few decades (decades of developing software), "The only program that works exactly the way you want it to is the one you write yourself - until you change what you want."
