Best way to contain battery drain?

I've had my Pioneer 4100NEX for awhile now and have been loving it. One of the few major issues I noticed is that on my LG G4 (H811), the battery will slowly drain during usage. I mostly notice this while using Maps since it's also utilizing the phone's GPS.

Does anyone else notice this? Does it happen with other phones? I plan on upgrading to the Huawei Nexus whenever it comes out, so it'd be awesome if someone with a Nexus device could chime in as well!

I am using a Nexus 4 and the same head unit (european version) and my battery gets charged slightly during usage. But it's very close to being drained. I guess it depends on the phone.

I've noticed in the past that the G4 would shutdown when mounted on my windshield with Maps/GPS running. Like you said, I'm guessing it's just a device issue, unfortunately.

8100NEX and Motorolla Droid Turbo here, mine actually charges pretty nicely when plugged in, even when running both maps/music
