I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 and use Android Auto in my 2017 Honda CRV. It works well enough but isn't quite as responsive as I would hope (sometimes it takes a while for google to process my voice requests or opening my downloaded music/podcasts on google play music or plex takes a while).

My question is does the hardware makeup of the phone make a difference when using Android Auto? If I get a Pixel 3 or Galaxy S9 (or S10) all of which are a lot more powerful than the S7's ram, processor, etc. could I expect a better Android Auto experience in my car or is the Android Auto that is in the head unit the determining factor in how responsive it is? Unfortunately, most people I'm around have iPhones so I can't test with their phones.

Hope that make sense and thanks in advance!

Yes, that makes sense, and I believe the phone does make a difference. I, too, had a Galaxy S7, and sometimes when giving it a verbal command, I'd wonder if it was going to respond. My Galaxy S9 never has that issue. Granted, I never tried factory resetting the S7 to see if it just needed a good clean-up, but my S9 works much better both in my wife's Escape's head unit and just by itself in my Focus.

Very helpful, thanks. Great to hear if others had similar experience. I love my s7 but may be reason to upgrade.

I currently have a Verizon Galaxy S8. My Android auto works pretty well overall. In about a month and a half or so I'm going to be buying the unlocked OnePlus 6t and hope to have a better Android auto experience in my 2018 Accord Sport!

I do not think the phone makes a difference. I have a ZTE Axon 7 and there are some quirkiness with that as well. Personally I don't think it's fully ready.
