As an app developer, it'd be nice to have a phone that isn't locked to any particular firmware or OS. Apps need to be tested on many different environments in order to keep up with the ever-changing Android world, and unfortunately the slow emulators don't facilitate a rapid development environment. Galaxy Nexus is completely unlocked and modifiable, and Google pledges to provide OS updates faster than anyone else. Count me in.
