I have a Z3 Compact, and I use Android Pay. I unlock my phone, and then tap to pay. A second PIN screen comes up, I submit my PIN...and I am still at the same screen. If I hit "cancel", the phone drops me back into Android Pay, and I can complete the transaction normally.

What is this second PIN screen and how do I get rid of it?

I don't want to make this into a long and complicated post, but here's my story ...

At Best Buy a few days ago, after the terminal recognized my device, up came a PIN prompt for my Mastercard (credit, not a debit card). Twice I tried the old Google Wallet number, which didn't help. Finally, I decided to use the "cash advance" PIN. Almost immediately, the transaction went through.

The clerk said she'd seen the PIN prompt with Bank of America cards before, adding "It wants the number issued by the bank, not the security number you set up for the phone. If you don't know it, you'd have to get it from Bank of America." In geek-speak, it means they select "Online PIN" for cardholder verification, rather than the far more common signature or no verification needed (like at the supermarket).
