    I have checked to make sure that I have all the latest software updates, my phone isn't rooted, my NFC is on, and phone is unlocked. Unfortunately despite ensuring that all bases are covered to ensure that the in retail payment option should work, the application never responds and the store's terminal times out and I am not able to complete any purchases. This has been happening since at least 8/06/2017.

    Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? It's possible the NFC chip is malfunctioning. Can you test it out with some other NFC chip? For example, you could try using Android Beam with another phone to transfer a file: https://support.google.com/pixelphon.../2781895?hl=en

    I have issues with it also. What happens to me is I'll unlock my phone with my fingerprint, hold it near the terminal. I get 3 quick vibrations, the terminal reports a card read error and Android Pay asks for a re-authentication. After I re-authenticate (with my fingerprint!) I can "tap" the terminal and it reads fine.

    I've submitted this feedback to Google and keep hoping an update that comes through fixes this - it hasn't yet.
