oh man, most major updates are ok, but this one right off the bat is pissing me off.

the phone makes a text sound when you send a text, not just receive, but when you send a text! its confusing and makes me think i'm getting a reply right away. also if youre in the message app actively texting, when you receive a text, it dings twice. this **** is annoying as hell.

where do i control whats on the lock screen? i don't want the extra stuff they added, i just want the clock. i made my lock screen clear so i could see my picture, and now theres writing over my sons face.

speaking of the clock, why is it on the left and now and i do i move it back to the right? i don't like it! ( )

not really a fan of the iphone recent item change. it was easier to navigate when they were stacked vertically. also how to you change the quick apps at the bottom of the recent item window? the apps listed there i never use.

i closed waze thru the recent item page, and it was still showing it was in use in the notification panel. i had to go in and force stop it. does this mean apps don't actually close when you close them?

i've only used this for an hour or so, so i'm sure i'll find more **** they ****ed up while trying to fix something that wasn' broke.

p.s. sorry for the double thread. it wouldn't let me post this in the pie forum for some reason so i dumped it in the pixel 2 forum. my bad

You can turn off outgoing message sounds in the Messages app settings.

You can turn off notifications, but the other items on the lock screen can't be removed. By the way, your fighting against the current there as the vast majority of users have been asking for more information on that lock screen.

Clock was moved as part of Google better supporting notched displays. Moving the clock balanced out the status bar a bit. Can't be changed in the Pixels.. other OEM phones may allow.

The new Overview page is more than an app switcher. Quick access to the app drawer, the predictive suggestions (which improve over time, it learns from your usage), quick access to search, etc. The vertical cards would interfere with some of the gestures .. and Google's analytics showed people were not using it all that often, so they changed it. It also allows easier access to the window so you can cut and paste directly from Overview. I really like the new system... It's vastly more functional overall than the old Recents.

Waze loads a persistent service when it launches and has always required you you back out of the app for that notification to completely close. You can't do that by swiping away the app, never have .

Hey, Thanks for the response. I know that the overview and clock weren't things that could be changed, i was just venting my frustration. I was not aware of the copy/paste feature, i'll have to try that, altho its usually within chrome that i do that between tabs.

I turned off sent message sounds, but its still dinging at me when i send a text. force quit the app and even restarted, made no difference. also still getting the double ding while in the messenger app texting with someone when i receive a text.

as for waze, on 8.0 when i closed waze thru the app switcher/overview/whatever its called, it disappeared from my notifications at the top of the phone, and when i reopened it, it would have to reload everything. this is not the case anymore. even if i close the app, when i open it back up its right back to where i was in the drive. the notifications are telling me that waze is still running, and only once i was able to get it to say "switch off" and when i clicked it, nothing really happened. i'm thinking this is some kind of bug.

I don't know if this waze issue is causing this, but i've noticed a big decrease in my battery since upgrading monday night to 9.0. if i charge my phone at work around 3pm (almost daily except weekends) by the next day at 3pm i'll be in the 20% range. Now i'm hitting 20% when i wake up in the morning, forcing a quick charge before i leave for work. this is a bummer.

I haven't been on iphone for a couple years, but i've noticed this update copied more things from the iphone than previous updates.

It's basically converging evolution. People are going to want the same features, no matter what platform they use. Just like the physical design is converging, you'll see feature convergence too. The same can be said for a bunch of Apple features... Gesture navigation, for instance, isn't Apple's big innovation... I was using gesture nav on my Galaxy S3 back in 2013... And it wasn't even a new thing then.

As for settings.. Google isn't big on flooding users with a million different settings. It's never really need their thing for their own phones. Partly to keep things simple, partly to have people actually use them.

One of the reasons for the new one button navigation bar was because they looked at analytics and found that the old Recents system, which had pretty much been in place for ages, wasn't really used all that much... So they completely overhauled it and added a bunch of enhancements. Having it launched with a simple swipe up makes it easier to access.. this isn't a new system either.

When the Google launcher first dropped with KitKat on the Nexus 5, they included a way to quick launch Google Now via a long press of the home button.. it was on an arc that popped up, along with a shortcut to Search. That was replaced with On Tap, then Google Assistant... Now, between the long press to GA and they gesture to get to the new Overview system, that home button becomes a central hub to access pretty much everything on the phone quickly.

So a lot of people where confused as to why they didn't get rid of the nav bar, ala Apple... 'why keep that silly pill? '. Well, the way I see it, they've made that little pill far more powerful than the old three button nav bar, while making it easier to use in the process.

    I think it's brilliant.
