I got a pop up advising I had a virus on my Nexus 7. It provided a link to download a virus scan/scrub which I didn't do.
Should I have a mobile security program installed and if so what is the best one?

    Hello,

Some people swear by having them while others don't. I firmly believe if your surfing habits are on respectable, legit sites then you should be okay. Same goes for downloads of any sort, always try to use Google Play Store, Amazon, Slide Me or Get Jar for your apps and anything else download related from reputable sites. Its when you cut corners and download from other places that can cause troubles.

But same time if you feel a virus app will make you feel more secure then have at it. Just keep in mind it may cause a little lag in the system just like on your desktop/laptop computers running in the background.

An app is causing the pop up most likely. Is there any suspicious apps you downloaded like an mp3 downloader? I would start by uninstalling apps.

This article doesn't mention anything about the source of Android virus. I like to know what is the most likely method that a virus will get to my phone. I think of most android anti-virus app as the car alarm. A thing that doesn't really protect the car, but it sounds good in theory. Most of Android AV app checks for the Trojan horse hidden in the app. However, the chance of that happening to a person that downloads apps only from the google store is unlikely. However, if a person uses pirated apps frequently, then you reap what you sew, as the saying goes. A normal person should worry more about intrusion coming through the wifi or the bluetooth, which would make more sense to get a firewall. For some reason most of Android AV apps don't have firewall as a part of the package. They have lots of stuff that has nothing to do with AV such as the lost phone tracker, system booster, Etc... If the firewall is used more regularly like the AV app, perhaps there will not be so much celebrities loosing their naked pictures.

Kaspersky Internet Security offers solid protection for Android phone. Kaspersky Internet Security for maximum protection against computer viruses, worms, Trojans, & other Internet security threats. You can also try Kaspersky anti virus 2015 released a few months ago, and since then, it has garnered a positive reaction from nearly all of its consumers.
