I only got my Nexus for Xmas a couple of days ago but since then I have been getting messages saying "the page at ........ Says: check your android now for a virus!" every so often, maybe a couple of times a day, when going to any website. This strikes me as blatantly some kind of scam. Anyone else get this?

Only if I go to "those" kind of web sites. Those web sites seem to be yahoo hosted blogs my wife likes.

They're just annoying ads for (perhaps questionable) apps.

Don't listen to them at all. Unless you are going to shady sites and downloading even shadier files, you should be fine. However, there are anti virus apps on Play, many are free. If you want that as a peace of mind, go ahead.

Funny, I got one the other day on my Nexus 10 which said "Your Nexus 10 battery is dangerously low and needs attention." Guess anything for a buck.....

I started to receive this on my S3 as well but suspected it was a fake warning right a way. Googled to see if anything was known about it and indeed it seems to be an old scam ‘Check your Android NOW for a Virus!’ pop-ups and intrusive ads | Stay Protected except that in my case it also started downloading .apk file, I think it was mobogenie or something like that. The website title said it was coming from amazonaws.

Just wait till those fbi fake warnings start appearing on android. If android can ever get affected by those same viruses that affect pc's that will suck.
