This application is asking for your messages: access mail information, read SMS and MMS.
I don't mind it can do that to my SMS and MMS. But I don't quite understand the access mail information. Can it view or read read e-mails?

it has not permission to the internet so does the launcher seem ok?

I believe it needs it for notification support (for example, if you have 238 emails in gmail, then it will show a small 238 in the corner of the app icon). Also, if you are not comfortable with the permissions of Lightning launcher, then I recommend you check out Nova Launcher. It is a super popular launcher, and it is great.
