It's always possible to hack a phone, but it does take some expertise and effort. If you're concerned enough about this, do a factory reset of the phone. When you're done with the Setup Wizard, go immediately to the Google Play Store and stop any app that might be automatically installing (in case there might be some malicious app that you had installed before that wanted to automatically install again). Then reinstall your apps that you trust.

If you did share an account with your ex, get rid of it. Create a completely new account. If you have evidence that he has hacked into your phone or your email account, I believe that's illegal, so you could consider going to the authorities about it.
