I wasn't thinking and went to a website that offered to make a funny gif using my selfie cam outside of an app. It didn't work but now I'm wondering if that could have uploaded or downloaded anything dangerous on my phone. It it possible and if so how can I protect my phone and info? TIA!!!

You should be fine. It's unlikely it downloaded anything, unless you gave it permission. Even if it did get something on your phone, you'd then have to go through a few steps for it to install and become active malware. If that didn't happen, you should be fine.
