The ASUS Zenwatch 2 is an excellent value at $129. Samsung watches might work better with Samsung phones, but I don't have the direct experience to comment on that.

I bought a used watch over a year ago and it's still running fine. If you want to get Android Wear 2.0 updates, though, you'd better get a newer one.

If it has to be Android Wear, I'd recommend the Zenwatch 2 like Diddy said above.

Otherwise, I'd recommend the Pebble range - they have less features sure, but they do the core things like notifications and battery life very well. Also, every watch except the Time Round is fully waterproof!

And if you prefer a round watch, the 1st generation Moto 360 can be found for around $100 these days.

The sony smartwatch 3 is in your price range too... I don't have any first hand experience with it, but I do know its one of the few watches with its own GPS function so it operates a little more independently. I think.
