In the messaging app I cannot attach a picture. A video will attach.

Taking a photo in the app. There is a click like the picture was taken but it does not load in the chat box or save in my photo app f stop. A video will load in the chat box and send. I have tried various keyboards and messaging apps. If I take a photo in the camera and then go to the messaging app I can attach and sent it that way.

Welcome to Android Central! Which phone? Is this the stock messaging app, or a 3rd party one like Facebook Messenger?

After you take the picture using the messaging app, do you see the picture with an arrowhead icon? Perhaps it's prompting you to accept the photo you took in order to send it, and you're backing out of that unwittingly.
