Why can't I update the software on my device?

I've tried tapping on the icon update software but still have no luck. I keep on getting "unable to update the software . A neteork or server error occurred . Try sngain later " even though I'm connected to a secure WiFi network,

Which carrier (or source) are you trying to download from?

Welcome to Android Central! If your phone is more than 2 years old, then chances are it doesn't have any system updates available. It can also depend on the manufacturer, since certain manufacturers are notoriously bad about software support for their devices.
