Hacked texts?

I've been getting text messages from family contacts saying "Message expired or not available -tap to try again" when I or those contacts haven't been sending anything.

Is this a hack?

Welcome to Android Central! Those are MMS messages (i.e., picture texts or group texts), and it usually means your mobile data isn't turned on, or there's a problem with your mobile data connection. It's not a hack.

Are the sending phones iphones?
