How long should I charge my battery for the first time?

My phone came with some battery power, do I need to drain a bit or charge direct before use? And how long should I charge my phone the first time? Do I need to go over 6 hours?

If it comes with 50% can set it up then charge it fully.

Batteries are good to go from the manufacturer. I just use right away with my regular charging habits. So I'll run it down to ~35% right out of the gate, then charge.

For longevity, best practice would be to try to keep it between 25% - 85%

With a new phone, I charge it right away, typically while doing a Smart Switch.

Welcome to Android Central! One of the main reasons to charge your phone when you first get it is that the setup process (including installing all of your usual apps) can chew through a lot of battery. If the phone also has a system update to install, it will probably tell you that the phone needs to have at least 30% battery or so before the update will install (since loss of power during an update can easily brick the phone).
