Delete emails keep returning to inbox

[Android Central Question]

I use a NON-gmail email app on my Google Pixel 3A-XL; whenever I delete an email, it correctly appears in the Trash folder -- but when I empty the Trash, the email almost immediately pops up again in my Inbox. From various online discussions, this problem seesm to occur with MANY Gmail users as well.

How do I get rid of these endless repeat Incomings? <Force Stop> seems to have no effect. It's worth adding that personal emails from family and friends stay deleted, but emails from organizations and vendors are the repeat offenders.

Welcome to Android Central! So you're using the 3rd party email app to access your Gmail account, or some other email account? Are you connecting using the POP3 or IMAP server? Make sure it's IMAP.
