Phone changes

when I'm on my phone in my ear is touching the screen it's constantly changing other settings and turning other things on how do I stop that

It doesn't turn off the screen when put to the ear ?

Welcome to Android Central! Are you sure the phone isn't in speakerphone mode when you're calling?

Which phone?
Which version of android?
Which carrier?

When the speaker phone is not on, the proximity sensor should be detecting your head and turning off the screen.
Any chance you have a badly fitting screen protector or case?
