Had problems pairing my S7 with a 2019 Subaru Outback, using a 2nd usb cable bought frrom Samsung (fast-charger for another car). Pairing to new Subaru wouldn't work until I tried the original cable. Why? What is the difference between them?

Welcome to Android Central! When you say "pairing," are you talking about connecting it to Android Auto on your car's stereo system?

Are you certain the 2nd cable you bought was intended for both charging and data transfer? There are some cables that are only for charging. A normal USB cable can also be faulty, where the data transfer wires inside the cable fray or become loose.

The S7 charges with a micro USB cable. Those do come in charging only and charging with data transfer. This article has a very detailed photo that will show you the difference... https://www.dignited.com/50330/usb-d...harging-cable/
