How to mute the caller during a call? AKA put the volume down.

[Android Central Question]

In my old phone if I put the volume down during a call all the way it would effectively mute the voice of the caller. In my new phone / system (android 10) I have no control over that, if I do it it only goes to a certain minimum. I tested several volume control apps but even if they showed going down to 0 volume, they didn't actually do it. Is there any way to get this done?

Yes I have a hold button but the caller gets an automated notification that hold is on. I want the caller to keep monologuing in oblivion.
