Why does my tecno spark screen turns dark when am calling

Anytime I make a call the screen goes off even before I place the phone on my ear, and it won't light on until I press the power button

In the phone settings does it have options to turn off or on the proximity sensor?

Make sure your screen protector or case not interfere with it .

Welcome to Android Central! The proximity sensor is right next to the front-facing camera, so if something is blocking it (like a screen protector or case, as mustang7757 mentioned), it will make the phone think it's up against your ear during a call, even if you take the phone away from your ear. The proximity sensor turns off the screen while in a call when it thinks the phone is against your ear, so that you don't accidentally press any onscreen buttons.

Make sure screen protector or case not blocking your proximity sensor.
Try safe mode.
This happens both to ear and speaker phone?
