Android Central Question

Hello, my LG V40 was broken recently, so I had to buy another LG V40.
My old LG V40 had been backing up automatically everyday to google drive, and when I restore it does say that the date of last backup is the day when my V40 broke

However, after the restore process is completed, I found out that half of my apps went missing? I dont really remember which apps.. but I certainly remember I had much more than 30 apps (like 2 pages went missing?)- especially when my most frequently used apps (Instagram+Facebook+Color Note) went missing? Also I thought through google drive some app data will be backed up as well, but none of them got backed up? Did i set up my backup wrong on my old V40? (I remember I did tick every option on the backup though?) Is there any way to find my app data..? Thank you so much

(Also another question although I kinda expected the answer: Is it that I can’t back up any files/settings through Google Drive auto-backup? If yes then it seems like the Google-drive-backup backups really few things.. I was using iphone’s icloud backup before and i was not expecting this 😂 Any software recommended to automatically backup android phones (like icloud for ios) so when I get a new phone it can be like a carbon copy- without me setting up anything again? ofc it’d be best if its free😂 Thank you so much…

Welcome to Android Central! When it says that it backs up apps, that means your app list, not necessarily all of the app data. Were all of those apps installed through the Play Store?

App data being backed up depends on the app (i.e., if the developer took advantage of the Google Drive backup feature): https://support.google.com/android/answer/2819582?hl=en#zippy=,what-gets-backed-up. I'm not aware of a simple list that tells you which apps in the Play Store take advantage of this feature, but if you open Google Drive, then tap Backups, then the backup you're interested in, then App Data, it will show you which apps have backed up data to Drive.

The backup system should backup all of your system settings, as well as app settings (again, assuming the developer took advantage of that feature). Discrete files like documents, music files, etc. locally stored on your phone will NOT be backed up automatically unless you uploaded them to your Google Drive (or Google Photos) to begin with.

Thank you! Yes i downloaded them through google play store.. and when i clicked on Google Drive:Backups:App data I saw 95 apps :o....Wonder why only 30 apps got downloaded automatically..Had to go download the rest of them manually now...And weirdly 0 of the 30 apps that got downloaded got app data backed up... :(

Just wondering do you know another software that can backup everything on my phone so that I can restore my phone like a carbon copy..? Thank you so much

I don't know much about backup apps that will essentially clone a phone -- those tend to require rooting. Helium is from a respected developer and is worth a try because it doesn't require root, but I've seen a number of complaints saying it doesn't work very well any more. I think Titanium Backup is one of the most popular and effective ones, but that one requires root.
