Welcome to Android Central! Cellphones don't have dial tones. Which phone do you have, and which carrier? Can they hear you on the call? Does it work if you turn on speakerphone or use a wired or Bluetooth headset?

Yeah, cellphones don't have dialtones, because these aren't landlines with an open circuit waiting for you to start dialing.

You type in the number, press the "call" button and then it starts dialing out waiting for the other end to answer. You will hear the phone ring on your end until they answer, or it goes to voicemail.
