Can anyone help me with drag and drop files. I can't seem to get it w/t pad or mouse?

I am using a HP Chromebook version 88.0.4324.109. First let me say I imported a test file that was originally a MS Excell "saved as Google Doc" as a short cut way to bring it on from a thumb drive and enable me to edit the file my Downloads. I created a folder for it in Google Drive and wanted to drag it there as an initial set up. The action on the screen appeared to drag it across but in reality it did not copy over. Thank You

Remember that Google Drive represents your Drive in the cloud. If you want to copy the file to the Chromebook's local drive, drag it to the Downloads folder under My Files (not Google Drive).

Mouse: Hold the left mouse button down (when the cursor is over the app icon) and drag. When you get it where you want it, let go of the button.

Touchpad: Same thing, left touchpad button - drag with the pad, let go of the button when the icon is where you want it.

If you're dragging to a folder, it helps if the folder is open. If it's closed you have to watch the folder to see when it changes color.
