Why is there a paperclip icon on some of my messages when I didn't send any attachments?

Some of my messages have an attachment icon when I didn't send any attachments. Why?

Welcome to Android Central! You see the paperclip icon on your end, or the recipient sees it on their end? Are these messages that include emojis, or are they group texts?
