Missing photos in gallery

I cannot view any photos that I have taken over the last few days in my photo gallery. I'm not talking about Google photos as for some reason they show there. I've cleared data and cache on several occasions and it works for a while and then stops again. When the photos do show, I can't edit it. I get an error saying photo format not supported. Also if I do a screen shot the dates comes up as Jan 1970. It's so frustrating. Can anyone help please

Do you have a SD card installed?

Did you recently transfer data to the device?
