My Moto G8 phone allocates a number to each photo taken.
Eg IMG_20210816_131134184 (followed by suffix HDR or by MP or by nothing)
I can see the first eight digits represent the date and the next six represent the time but I don't understand the meaning of the last three which seem to me to be random.
    What do they mean?
    Are they important?
If I renamed all the files to delete the last three digits and the suffix would it cause me any problems?
    Any advice much appreciated

Welcome to Android Central! Maybe thousandths of a second? Remember that cameras these days can take super-slo-mo videos at up to 960 FPS, so the software probably has the ability to measure the time it was taken down to the thousandth of a second.

B Diddy, your answer is dead right I think, I found a couple of photos I accidently took almost simultaneously, I can see from a moving person they are about half a second apart and that matches the difference in the id number. No doubt that data is vital to some photographers.
    Many thanks for your help!

The first set of numbers is the date, 8/16/21, of the snap. The second set is the (military) time, with meta data on the end.
