Why do my bluetooth earphones work for call audio and not media?

[Android Central Question]

I'm using a set of Bluetooth earphones which up until yesterday worked fine, but they no longer produce any sound when I try to listen to music. I tried to change the media audio setting to on, but it was already turned on. I have re-paired them to mt phone dozens of times, but no progress. BTMono seems to play sound but it's an annoyance to constantly use and the sound quality is atrocious. Any help is appreciated.

Have you tried using your BT earphones with another device such as a friend's phone?
Have you tried playing through a different device such as a friend's earphones or a speaker?
Have you tried un-pairing and re-pairing the earphones?
