Hi! Does a brand new phone that is using a li-poly battery need a battery calibration?
Welcome to Android Central! No calibration needed. Just start using it.
I would say, however, that the whole process of setting up a new phone can be pretty battery intensive (since the phone will likely be installing a ton of apps, as well as probably doing a system update or two), so it's still a good idea to charge while setting up, or charge up to 100% first before going through the whole setup process.
Once in a while charge from 5 to 100 percent
Is it bad to drain it?
It's best to avoid frequent deep drain of batteries -- doing that regularly shortens the overall battery life. Once in a while is fine, but just don't make a habit of it.
