Updated my HTC Desire S now it won't work

[AC Question]

I updated the android system software on my phone and the phone has now crashed. I have tried the factory reboot by holding the volume button at the side but this hasn't worked. I have downloaded a toolkit which I thought would help with this but I can't use it either as I need a code and device is not found by my computer. I left it in to a local phone shop and they had no idea how to fix it. I think may have to load something on to my computer or sd card to sort this problem out but unfortunately thats as far as my phone knowledge stretches

Anybody got any ideas?

Welcome to Android Central! How did you update your phone? Was it an official over-the-air system update? Or did you root it and try to flash a custom ROM?
