Streaming video pause/buffer issue

I have a transformer prime with jellybean that I am unable to pause streaming video on. If I pause for longer than a minute or so, when I resume playback it only plays for about a minute, then exits video play completely. It also doesn't seem to buffer when paused at all. I've tried many different video player apps, including MX and VLC. None work. Is there a streaming video app available that has both pause and buffer while paused capability? Or is there an OS or in-app setting that I can change that will correct this? It's very frustrating to not be able to pause to step away for a moment without having to start the stream all over again - because of course there isn't any way to jump ahead into a streaming video either. These are such simple and rather necessary functions that I think I have to be missing something -

Perhaps clearing cache in recovery? I am not sure how to on your device, I can help you look though.
