Problem with Hangouts

[AC Question]

Sony Xperia z1, co stand message from Hangouts: couldn't sign in because we couldn't reach google. No access to play Store, cannot download anything. Please help!

Welcome to Android Central! How are you connected to the web, by wi-fi or mobile data? Are you sure those connections are good? Do other web-connected apps work fine?

Are you logged into your Google account on the phone? Go to Settings>Accounts-Google​, and see if the email address listed there is the correct one.

I have been having the same problem with Samsung Galaxy S3 mini. My internet and wifi connections work fine, I can access Gmail and Twitter and a few other apps I use but not Hangouts. Very frustrating. Did you get it sorted, and if so how did you do it? I can't reach play store either
