Does anyone else know what will work? Is this just the update? Thanks!

Oops looks like there is some problem with the update it may have broken your device down !! :O I would say try opening it again... and if this still doesn't work then I am afraid but you may need to try factory resetting your device, or if that doesn't help you may have to reload the firmware again over your device. Firstly I would recommend try performing as factory reset (One more thing factory resetting will remove all your personal data including images, videos, etc) . And if that still doesn't helps then head over to the sammobile/firmware section download the stock ROM, get the latest version of ODIN downloaded and flash that Stock ROM over to your device with the help of ODIN. ( I would not recommend performing this if your device is till covered under the warranty as this is going to void your warranty ).
