How to get Apps

Google Play is dead on my phone. I have tried every bit of advice I have been able to find but no good.

So, is there another way to get apps onto my phone?

Hello. I don't have the ability to solve this but I can make suggestions.
I read one or two of the other threads.
Is Download Manager enabled in Applications - app Info.
Can you send an app remotely from a pc on Play. Google. com.
Is your device visible in Play settings on a pc browser.

Download manager is enabled

I cannot install apps via Google play on PC as I need to log in to Google play on phone to do this

You're right you need to be logged in to Google anyway.
I read all your posts on this.
I had those sync error messages after KitKat on a Samsung Note 3.
I had to uncheck most sync settings in the Google account. You've tried all that.

Sony xperia s 9 4 tablet originally on 4.0, possibly 4.1.2 now.

How about Google Play Services app next door. Version 5.0.84 on my Samsung GS2 and Note 3.
Should be enabled by default and have more data than the Play app (43mb approx).
Current Play Store app is version 4.8.20, though you can uninstall updates.

Will search myself tomorrow.
Try asking also in Android Central Community - Introductions, and the Sony Android Phones - Xperia - Xperia s.
A poster there uninstalled the updates to Download Manager on a rooted S and that fixed Play for them.
