How can I connect my Android to my Mac?

I am doing what I'm supposed to: connect w/USB cable, open Image Capture, try Android File Transfer, etc. The computer doesn't recognize my phone. How do I fix this?

What phone? What version of Android is it on? What version of OS X?

I have a Moto X on 4.4.2, a MBP on 10.9.4 and installed AFT the other day, worked just fine for me.

When your phone is plugged in, does it display a notification along the lines of "Connected as a media device"?

Easiest way? Use the free version of Airdroid. Find it at the play store.
