Syncing Contacts to Gmail

Hi All,

I’m an absolute newbie to the great Android world. Request your help and inputs on this please…

My wife had a Nokia Asha 311 all this while, but she eventually migrated to Moto E 3-days back. We got her old sim deactivated and got a micro one for her new phone. However, the issue is that we forgot on coping the contacts prior to taking that step there are around 500 contacts in her sim + phone memory of the Asha 311. We went to a store and they demanded Rs. 500/- to get the contacts synced to a gmail address, which makes me think it can be done, its just that am not aware how?

Could someone please assist me on this….

Not familiar with that Nokia model, but if it was a smartphone with a Google account all your contacts should be stored in the cloud and all you would need to do it sign in with that same account and sync them to the new phone.

Welcome to Android Central! The Nokia Asha line is Symbian-based, so I don't believe that the phone would be syncing contacts with Google. Syncing the contacts from the SIM card to your Google account would be a matter of exporting those contacts as a multiple .vcf file or a .csv file, and then importing it into your Google Contacts (either on the web or directly to the phone). I'm not sure what the exact process of exporting the contacts from the SIM card would be, since I'm not familiar with the Asha line. But most contact apps in any smartphone will have some kind of Export option--look for that, and see if you can export all contacts to a file. Then either save that file to the SD card or upload it to some cloud storage (if possible--again, I'm not familiar with what the Asha phones can do). If you can get the file onto a computer, then you could import it into your Google account using the steps in the above link.
