Background data - OFF - causing phone to not update on 4G service

AC Question

Hi all,

I wanted to restrict my data usage as I was about to go over my limit for the month. So I turned off the biggest offenders using the 'restrict background data' option. Now that my bill has cycled, I no longer need to restrict anything so I unchecked that box for the 4 applications I had it set on.

Now, however, those 4 applications will ONLY update when connected to a wireless network. Regardless of the setting. This is a problem as it is my Gmail account, Facebook, Snapchat and text messaging. I called Verizon and they told me that I'd have to uninstall and reinstall all those apps. I REALLY do not want to do that if I don't have to.

Has anyone ever run into this? How do I get my phone to go back to using the 4G network???

I haven't. I'd try Rebooting the phone, clearing the cache on the apps, and see if that helps.

If not just reinstall one app and see if it helps. Those apps all run off the cloud so you won't lose anything except the text messaging one. Do you not use your carriers one for that?

I've rebooted the phone and that doesn't help. I tried deleting my gmail/google account and re installing it and it's still doing it. Bah!

How do I go about cleaning out the cashe? Maybe that will work. I may just go to the verizon store tomorrow and have them deal with it.

No, I use Go SMS Pro for text messages. If I lose those though i'm not really all that worried about it. I clean those out pretty often anyway.

Thanks for you feedback!

Go to system settings - applications. Choose the application and select cleat cache.

Let us know how it goes.

Well I cleared out the cashe and restarted the phone for good measure. I sent a couple test emails w/ the wifi off and it took a little bit but they did show up eventually... progress!! Hopefully that takes care of it.

Thank you for your help!!!

Have you ever thought of toggling your mobile data off when you're not using the phone? Then turning it back on when you want to check things? Most newer phones will sync info pretty quickly once you turn on mobile data. By toggling it off when you're not using it, the phone won't use up any data (like if an app wanted to refresh on its own preset schedule).
