Has there been a leap in Android games lighting effects

Is it just me or have the lighting effects etc in Android games become more sophisticated in the last 6 months and what has caused this? I've been playing Clockwork Kiwi among others and the more I get into them the more I realise there's been a huge shift in what's being released - lighting fx wise I mean.

Could just be that developers are stepping up their game or just optimizing it for the newer and latest hardware. I don't game much so I can't confirm nor deny if I am seeing it too but if it is, that's great news for Android as a platform
