Welcome to Android Central! Tap the menu button, and you'll see it.

Thanks also - though it took me a while to find the new place for refresh [it is not a item in the menu but is the circular arrow icon at the top of the menu]

Whilst I think this change in Chrome is inconvenient, what is worse is that this area on the URL bar used to change to an 'x' after I tapped on a link while the new page loaded [clicking 'x' would stop the page from loading]. I found this 'x' appearing gave me feedback that I had clicked a link and chrome was waiting for the web server to respond. Now, if I try to tap a link but miss, I don't know I missed and hence I wait rather than retry the tap immediately

Maybe just the way I use Chrome, but this change seems like a retrograde step to me to allow about 1 extra char on the URL bar

    Running Chrome 37.0.2062.117 on Nexus 4 , Android 4.4.4

Hmm. I'm not sure if I read your post incorrectly, but I still get the "X" when loading a new page. Also using the latest update of Chrome.

I never get the 'x' on the right hand side of the URL bar like I used to when a page was loading
e.g. when I do any of the following
    1) Open new tab, enter an url and 'go'
    2) Click on a link on an existing page
    3) Click the new reload icon at the top of the chrome menu

Pages are taking between a half and 3 secs to load

OK. So I did read it properly
Mine is still working though. Do you get the option if you press the menu button?

I get what you see [a white "X" in a dark grey background circle] if I manually type into the URL but before I hit the "Go" button. Once I hit Go, then this "X" then disappears - I think in last Chrome version then the dark "X" [i.e. stop] would appear in the URL bar

Ahh, after I typed above I now realise what you are asking - yes, while the page is loading then the reload circular arrow icon in the Chrome menu changes to the dark 'X' [and then changes back to the circular arrow once the page has loaded]
i.e. it seems the reload icon in the menu of new Chrome version mimics what the icon in the URL bar did in the previous Chrome version

P.S. I'm running stock android/chrome [latest version of each for Nexus 4]

On my Nexus 5 running the latest Chrome, I also notice that there is no X to stop loading the page, unless I tap the menu button while the page is loading. However, I do know the page is loading because of the blue progress bar that starts lengthening under the URL bar.

Yes, I get the blue progress bar - I can live with seeing it to know I didn't miss clicking the link :-)

Still, doing a refresh/reload in new Chrome is now more awkward [2 clicks instead of 1]. Is it my eyes or is the Chrome menu popup wider than before [to accommodate the extra reload icon at top]?

    Thanks for your help

    Are you using Chrome Beta?

If you're using the non-beta Chrome, which version are you running? I have 37.0.2062.117.

No no, we are talking about the official Chrome. I was wondering if you were using Beta, since it looked a little different.

Ah, OK. Anything different other than the "x" button there?
