Earphones connecting

My s5 is registering a connection in the audio jack when there is nothing inside, i cleaned it out already. after about 2 seconds it registers no earphones then the symbol at the top of the screen disappears. then another 2 seconds it registers them again. It stops when actually connect head phones. but i cant talk to people on the phone, play music or videos... because "earphones are connected" but they dont have an output for the sound becaue it wont go to the phone speaker

If so, then it's probably a faulty headphone jack. If the phone is still under warranty, give Samsung a call.
