Buying a prepaid phone at Best Buy T-mobile for post paid plan

I saw a Best Buy a prepaid phone that was cheaper than at T Mobile store. Can I buy the cheaper phone and just buy a SIM card to use as part of a family plan for t mobile?

Yes. The Sim card would have to be activated though. If the phone for some reason doesn't work, Best Buy has a good return policy and you can return the device.
